Despite facing criticism from fans and analysts throughout the season, many were still caught off guard by the team’s decision, especially after Fever president Kelly Krauskopf had previously voiced her admiration for Sides’ efforts.

Sides leaves the team after two seasons, the latter marked by a standout playoff run led by star player Caitlin Clark—the Fever’s first postseason appearance since 2016. In their last playoff stint, the iconic Tamika Catchings led Indiana in her final season, cementing her legacy as an Indiana legend.

Reacting to the news, Sides took to social media with a graceful message: “Leave it better than you found it,” limiting replies to just those she follows. Among the few who responded was none other than Catchings herself, who expressed her admiration and support: “@ChristieSides I’m so proud of you for a heckuva season and getting the @IndianaFever back to the Playoffs! You came, you achieved, and I KNOW the BEST IS YET TO COME!”

Though it’s uncertain what lies ahead for Sides, she can count on the unwavering support of Catchings and her fans as she prepares for the next chapter.
