Kirby Smart Provides Injury Update for Georgia Ahead of Florida Showdown
Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart has delivered a promising injury update on standout offensive lineman Tate Ratledge. The Bulldogs, currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, have been without Ratledge for the last four games due to a high-ankle sprain he sustained in a close win over Kentucky on September 14.
Even in Ratledge’s absence, Georgia has found its stride, particularly following a crucial victory against No. 1 Texas. Smart remains hopeful about Ratledge’s return for the upcoming game against Florida, as reported by ESPN’s Chris Low.
Ratledge, a senior and two-time national champion, is considered one of the top interior linemen in college football and was recognized in preseason watchlists for prestigious awards like the Lombardi Award and the Outland Trophy. Given the Bulldogs‘ struggles on offense, particularly in the running game, his comeback could be crucial.
At present, Georgia’s offense is averaging 33.3 points per game, significantly trailing national leader Miami by over 13 points. The run game has been particularly disappointing this season, despite expectations that it would be a strength, especially with the addition of sought-after transfer Trevor Etienne. Currently, Georgia ranks 95th in rushing yards per game, posing a challenge as they strive for a third national title in four years.
The Bulldogs face a challenging schedule ahead. After their rivalry game with Florida they will encounter a series of ranked opponents, starting with No. 19 Ole Miss and followed by No. 7 Tennessee at home. With a path to the SEC Championship and the College Football Playoff in sight, Georgia must overcome these hurdles to keep their championship dreams alive.
