NY Jets: Key Player Injuries, Teams Shakeup, and Bold Play calling Ahead
Haason Reddick made his long-awaited debut for the NY Jets in Week 8 against the New England Patriots, but it didn’t unfold as hoped. He finished the game with three pressures and no tackles, and unfortunately, he left with a neck injury. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich updated the media on Monday, saying Reddick was listed as a limited participant in practice. However, the team isn’t overly concerned about his availability for Thursday Night Football against the Houston Texans.
As the Jets prepare for a short week, Reddick’s status is critical. Fans will be eager to see if Ulbrich provides clearer injury updates than his predecessor. Meanwhile, the Jets’ kicking situation is becoming a pressing issue. Greg Zuerlein has struggled this season, currently ranking as the worst kicker in the NFL. His performance has had a significant impact, contributing to three losses, including the recent game against the Patriots, where he missed both an extra point and a 44-yard field goal.
Despite only making 5-of-11 field goals from 30+ yards and having just one kick over 40 yards all season, the Jets have yet to make a change at kicker. Ulbrich mentioned that the team would bring in kickers for a competition during Tuesday’s practice, leaving Zuerlein’s future uncertain. The Jets might be hesitant to part ways with him after guaranteeing $4.2 million this offseason, but a change may be necessary.
The decision to promote Ulbrich to interim head coach is showing mixed results. With added responsibilities, including defensive play-calling, the Jets’ defense has noticeably declined since Robert Saleh’s exit. Ulbrich remains committed to his role, signaling that the team’s challenges are far from resolved.
