The Atlanta Braves have made major offseason moves by signing left-hander Aaron Bummer to a two-year, $13 million deal. They also revised All-Star right-hander Reynaldo Lopez’s contract, extending it to three years at $30 million, which includes an extra $4 million guarantee. These changes reflect the Braves’ commitment to enhancing their pitching staff for the upcoming MLB season.
Aaron Bummer, 31, joins the Braves after five seasons with the Chicago White Sox, where he had a $16 million contract with options. Under his new agreement, Bummer will earn $3.5 million next year and $9.5 million in 2026. With a solid performance record and a 3.58 ERA over 56 appearances last season, he is expected to be a key asset in the Braves’ bullpen, particularly in high-pressure situations.
Reynaldo Lopez, now 30, is enjoying a successful career and recently finalized a three-year, $30 million contract in November. His updated deal features salaries of $4 million for 2024, $8 million in 2025, $14 million in 2026, and $8 million in 2027. After a standout season with a 1.99 ERA in 25 starts, he is set to be a key player in the Braves’ rotation for the upcoming season.
To further strengthen their pitching depth, the Braves have also promoted right-hander Domingo Gonzalez from Triple-A Gwinnett. This move underscores the team’s dedication to building a robust and versatile pitching staff, blending seasoned players like Bummer and Lopez with rising talents. The Braves are clearly focused on creating a competitive roster as they pursue championship glory.
Additionally, both Bummer and Lopez have committed to donating 1% of their salaries to the Atlanta Braves Foundation, reflecting their dedication to community engagement. With their combined skills and experience, they are poised to play vital roles in the Braves’ 2024 campaign, solidifying the team’s status as a strong contender in Major League Baseball.
