Saints Head Coach  Speech On Penalty By NFL

Saints Head Coach defensive lineman suffered the wrath of Los Angeles Chargers offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman last Sunday after he blatantly tried to injure Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.  Bozeman, who watched Shephard dive at Herbert’s legs, grab his right one and twist upward while trying to force Herbert to the ground, dove at Shephard and emphatically shoved him to the ground before being separated by officials.

Saints head coach Dennis Allen defended Shephard’s actions after the game, stating it was a simple case of misunderstanding. He was trying to wrap the quarterback up,” Allen told reporters. “He’s on the ground, he has no idea whether the quarterback has the ball or not. He’s just trying to bring the quarterback down to the ground, so there was nothing malicious about that play. However, nobody seemed to buy Allen’s explanation, including the NFL, which fined Shephard $11,817 for unnecessary roughness, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Bozeman was not disciplined for his role in the incident. The 29-year-old center went off on Shepherd after the game, telling reporters he was happy to protect his quarterback from what was very clearly an intent to injure him. “It was probably one of the dirtier plays I’ve ever seen, especially with my own eyes,” Bozeman stated.

The ball was gone two or three seconds and he’s still gator rolling, he’s on the ground, still gator rolling. Protect your quarterback no matter what. I think any offensive lineman in my position would’ve done the exact same thing  I had to get him off him.”
