Coco Gauff recently shared her thoughts on facing criticism for achieving results that some of her competitors receive praise for, during her campaign at the 2024 WTA Finals.

 

 

 

 

 

At just 20 years old, the 2023 US Open champion has experienced a rapid rise since her WTA Tour debut in 2019, leading to high expectations. While she has secured eight singles titles, she has also faced challenging periods that have drawn significant media and fan scrutiny.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In a recent interview with The National, Gauff suggested that the nature of her rise in the WTA might contribute to the criticism she receives. The World No. 3 noted that some players are celebrated for their accomplishments, whereas she tends to face backlash for achieving similar results. After winning her first Grand Slam title at the US Open last year, Gauff famously responded to her detractors.

After her 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Aryna Sabalenka in the 2023 US Open final, Coco Gauff took a jab at her critics.

Gauff began the 2024 WTA Finals with a strong win against fellow American Jessica Pegula and is now set to face reigning French Open champion Iga Swiatek.
