The Bears traded running back Khalil Herbert to the Bengals on Tuesday, receiving a 2025 seventh-round draft pick in return.

Herbert, in his fourth NFL season, was drafted by the Bears in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech. This season, he appeared in five games, recording eight carries for 16 yards. Over his 48-game career with the Bears, he accumulated 1,791 rushing yards on 372 attempts and scored nine touchdowns. Herbert also added 45 receptions for 291 yards and two touchdowns.

With the trade, the Bears now have eight picks in the 2025 NFL Draft:

– Round 1
– Round 2
– Round 2 (from Panthers)
– Round 3
– Round 5
– Round 6 (from Steelers – conditional)
– Round 7 (from Browns)
– Round 7 (from Bengals)

The Bears previously acquired the 2025 second-round pick as part of a blockbuster trade with the Panthers, where they sent the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft to Carolina in exchange for wide receiver DJ Moore and four draft picks, which led to the selections of right tackle Darnell Wright, cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, quarterback Caleb Williams, and punter Tory Taylor.

They traded away their 2025 fourth-round pick in a deal with the Bills to move up in last year’s draft, selecting defensive end Austin Booker in the fifth round. Chicago also moved their own 2025 sixth-round pick to the Seahawks for defensive end Darrell Taylor in August, but they acquired two additional sixth-round picks in trades for receiver Chase Claypool (Dolphins) and quarterback Justin Fields (Steelers). The pick from the Steelers could become a fourth-round selection depending on Fields’ playing time. Lastly, the Bears swapped the Dolphins’ sixth-round pick to the Browns in August for defensive tackle Chris Williams and a 2025 seventh-round pick.

The NFL trade deadline is 3 p.m. CT Tuesday.
