The Miami Dolphins defense got a major boost with the return of veteran defensive tackle Zach Sieler to practice on Thursday, albeit in a limited capacity. If cleared to play, Sieler aims to help a defense that’s allowed 28 and 30 points in the last two games as they face the Los Angeles Rams on Monday.
“I bring energy to the defense, Sieler said with a smile, after recovering from a fractured orbital bone suffered in late October. Despite the injury, he was enjoying a Pro Bowl-caliber season with 18 tackles, two sacks, a fumble recovery, and an interception in just six games.

“I’m a much better coach when he’s on the field,” said defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. Sieler’s absence cost the Dolphins in back-to-back losses to the Arizona Cardinals and Buffalo Bills, but the defense held both teams to under 100 rushing yards, a first for a unit that’s struggled against the run.
“Everybody loves having Zach out there,” said linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah. He brings us together and gives us that spark.
Sieler’s return is vital for a defense facing a red-hot Rams offense, led by quarterback Matthew Stafford and running back Kyren Williams, who ranks second in rushing touchdowns this season. Sieler emphasized the importance of playing disciplined, gap-sound defense. “It’s about doing our job and playing within the scheme, he said. “If we do that, we’ve got a great shot.”
