BREAKING: Oregon State Make Quarterback Change Due to Team`s Breakdown

CORVALLISOregon State quarterback Ben Gulbranson will make his first start of the season in Saturday’s game against San Jose State at 12:30 p.m. in Reser Stadium.

Gulbranson, a fifth-year junior, takes over for junior Gevani McCoy, who started the Beavers’ first eight games of the season. Gulbranson was seen working with the starting unit during warmups.

With nine career starts at OSU, Gulbranson’s most recent came in the 2023 Sun Bowl. He also started the final eight games of the 2022 season, going 7-1 during that stretch and earning MVP honors in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Gulbranson replaced McCoy in the second quarter of Oregon State’s 44-7 loss to California on October 26. He has completed 11 of 20 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown this season.

Oregon State head coach Trent Bray had indicated earlier this week that the starting quarterback position was open for competition due to McCoy’s recent struggles. Bray, along with offensive coordinator Ryan Gunderson, planned to assess both quarterbacks after Thursday’s practice before making a decision.

McCoy has completed 123 of 200 passes for 1,300 yards and three touchdowns, but he has faced difficulties recently, including throwing four interceptions against Nevada and struggling to move the offense against California.
