Two Tampa Bay Rays Stars Could Be On Their Way To Join Rivals,

The Tampa Bay Rays could be looking to part ways with some of their top talent, with veterans Yandy Diaz and Brandon Lowe potentially on the trade block. According to Jeff Passan, the Rays are open to listening to offers for the two infielders, and both could be strong fits for the New York Yankees.

Diaz, a contact-hitting first baseman, has been linked to Yankees trade rumors in the past. The 33-year-old posted a solid .281 batting average with a .755 OPS over 145 games in 2024, adding 14 home runs and 65 RBIs to his résumé.

Yandy Diaz experienced a significant drop-off from his stellar 2023 campaign, when he claimed the AL batting title with a .330 average and finished third in MVP voting. The Rays are hopeful that the 33-year-old first baseman can rebound in 2025 before hitting free agency at the end of next season.

Meanwhile, Brandon Lowe, who has spent his entire seven-year career with the Rays, posted solid numbers in 2024, hitting 21 home runs with 58 RBIs and a slash line of .244/.311/.473 in 107 games. A former All-Star in 2019, Lowe has also earned two top-ten MVP finishes in his career, making him an appealing option for teams looking to add power to their lineup.

In 2024, Anthony Rizzo and Gleyber Torres were the Yankees’ go-to first and second basemen, but both are free agents with uncertain futures in New York. The Yankees have several internal options to fill these spots, including Jazz Chisholm Jr. (a former second baseman), Oswaldo Cabrera, and Ben Rice, who stepped in for Rizzo at first base last season. DJ LeMahieu is another versatile option. While the trade value for Yandy Diaz and Brandon Lowe remains unclear, the Rays may be reluctant to trade two key veterans to an AL East rival like the Yankees.
