The Dolphins’ Star Wide Receiver is Expected To Require Wrist Surgery
Tyreek Hill’s wrist injury is severe enough to require surgery, but the Miami Dolphins‘ star wide receiver is opting to delay the procedure until after the 2024 season. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Hill made it clear that he will play in Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders, managing the pain with sheer determination.
“At the end of the day, I just got to suck it up and deal with the pain,” Hill said, acknowledging that the injury would worsen the more he played. “I’ve got to gut it out for my team. I’m locked in no matter what, no matter how I feel. Even if I’ve got to cut my wrist off, I’m still out there because I love the game.”
Although doctors have discussed surgery with him, Hill emphasized that the decision to keep playing is his own. As of Friday, he was not listed on the Dolphins injury report for Week 11.
Hill first injured his wrist during joint practices with the Washington Commanders in the summer and had been playing through it for the first 10 weeks of the season. However, the pain worsened ahead of Miami’s Monday night game against the Los Angeles Rams, resulting in a questionable injury designation.
Despite the injury, Hill delivered in the prime-time game, catching three passes for 16 yards, including a key touchdown. However, his production has been below his 2023 levels, where he led the NFL in receiving yards. While quarterback instability—especially after Tua Tagovailoa’s Week 2 concussion—has contributed to this, Hill’s comments suggest there are additional factors at play.
Regardless, Hill remains committed to the Dolphins’ playoff hopes, continuing to play through the pain as the team battles at 3-6.
