White Sox Swing Big, Lock in Top Outfielder with New Deal
The Chicago White Sox have reportedly signed outfielder Austin Slater to an MLB contract, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. While the terms and duration of the deal have not been disclosed, the acquisition adds depth to the White Sox roster as they continue to build for the future.
Slater, 31, had a busy 2024 season, playing for three different teams—the San Francisco Giants, Baltimore Orioles, and Cincinnati Reds—appearing in 84 games. During this time, he recorded two home runs, 18 RBIs, 60 strikeouts, and 26 walks in 212 plate appearances, showing his ability to contribute both offensively and defensively.
Over the course of his 634-game MLB career, Slater has posted a .252/.342/.385 slash line. He has accumulated 40 home runs and 159 RBIs in 1,482 at-bats, offering a solid, if not flashy, offensive profile. Known for his versatility, Slater has played all three outfield positions and could provide the White Sox with an experienced bat and defensive option across the outfield.
The addition of Slater brings the White Sox’s 40-man roster to 37 players, once the deal is officially completed. This move signals the team’s intent to strengthen its depth while adding a reliable veteran presence to the roster. As details of the contract come into focus, it remains to be seen how Slater will fit into the White Sox’s plans for the upcoming seasons.
