Browns Told to Swap for Rival Coach as Stefanski’s Potential Replacement
Kevin Stefanski’s job is increasingly in jeopardy, and former Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn has a bold suggestion for his potential replacement.
Quinn, who spent three seasons with the Browns, proposed that Cleveland should make a daring move and reach out to the Pittsburgh Steelers to inquire about trading for Mike Tomlin.
On Fox Sports’ “2 Pros & a Cup of Joe,” Quinn praised Tomlin’s consistency and strong culture in Pittsburgh, suggesting that Cleveland should make a serious push if Stefanski were to be let go.
“I’d call the Steelers, no question,” Quinn said. “If I’m Jimmy Haslam, I’d offer whatever it takes to bring Mike Tomlin to Cleveland. At least make them say no—make them turn down an offer they can’t refuse.”
Quinn’s suggestion may sound appealing for the Browns, but the Steelers would likely hang up the phone as soon as they heard it. Mike Tomlin has been the Pittsburgh head coach for 18 years, posting a 181-102-2 record and securing a Super Bowl victory during his tenure. He is the cornerstone of the Steelers’ culture, and sending him to a division rival is the last thing Pittsburgh would consider.
Moreover, the Steelers are currently leading the AFC North at 8-2 and would have no interest in trading Tomlin, regardless of how the rest of the season unfolds.
“It sounds crazy,” Quinn admitted. “And I’m sure Pittsburgh fans will criticize me, and Cleveland fans might think it’s ridiculous. But if that job opens up, I’d be doing everything I can to get the best option, and that’s who I’d be targeting.”
