Why Broncos Week 16 Chargers matchup is flexed to Thursday Night Football

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos are set for another prime-time appearance.

Denver’s Week 16 road game against the Los Angeles Chargers has been moved to “Thursday Night Football” on Prime Video, the NFL announced on Friday.

Originally scheduled for a 2:05 p.m. MT kickoff on FOX, the game at SoFi Stadium is the first to be flexed to Thursday night under the NFL’s new flexible scheduling rules for the 2023 season. These rules allow for up to two Thursday games between Weeks 13 and 17 to be flexed, with the decision needing to be made at least 28 days in advance.

The Broncos’ last Thursday night appearance came in Week 7, when they defeated the Saints 33-10 in New Orleans.

In addition to this primetime matchup, Denver will play on “Monday Night Football” in Week 13 against the Browns, bringing their total number of primetime games this season to at least three. The scheduling for their Week 17 and Week 18 games is still to be determined.

The originally scheduled “Thursday Night Football” game between the Bengals and Browns has been shifted due to this change.

Before facing the Chargers, the Broncos will play the Raiders in Las Vegas and host the Browns and Colts.
