World War II veteran Harvey Drahos honored as the 12 Flag Raiser for Seahawks vs. Cardinals game.
The Seattle Seahawks are set to face the Arizona Cardinals at Lumen Field this Sunday for their Week 12 matchup. As part of the pregame tradition, the honor of raising the 12 Flag will go to a remarkable individual, 101-year-old World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Harvey Drahos.
Drahos’s extraordinary story begins with his service in the United States Army’s 96th Infantry Division during World War II. At just 22 years old, he was severely wounded in the Battle of Okinawa in 1945, enduring a traumatic brain injury and multiple shrapnel wounds that nearly cost him his life. Despite these life-altering injuries, Drahos displayed incredible resilience, earning an honorable discharge and channeling his commitment to service into a lifetime of contributions to his community.
After his military service, Drahos became a search and rescue pilot with the Civil Air Patrol, continuing his mission of helping others. His bravery and dedication have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal, Congressional Gold Medal, and the Purple Heart, among other honors. These awards reflect not only his courage on the battlefield but also his enduring commitment to making a positive impact long after his time in uniform.
