Alabama Stunned With Field Storming Leads to $300K Fine for Crimson Tide Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide suffered their third loss of the season on Saturday, with the Oklahoma Sooners pulling off a staggering upset of the No. 7-ranked squad. The Crimson Tide struggled to compete against the Sooners, with Brent Venables’ team making it difficult for quarterback Jalen Milroe to get the Alabama offense going.
After registering a field goal in the opening quarter, Alabama football wasn’t able to score again and could only muster 234 total yards throughout the game. Meanwhile, Oklahoma took a 24-3 lead by the end of the third quarter and held on for the win. Running back Xavier Robinson tallied two rushing touchdowns to lead the Sooners to victory.
Sure enough, Sooners fans at the Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium were delighted by the victory. The problem, however, was that the Oklahoma faithful celebrated too early and stormed the field with about 28 seconds left on the clock. That being said, Oklahoma is certain to get fined $100,000 for the field-rushing incident. According to the SEC’s competition area entry policy, the Sooners will have to pay the fine to Alabama, per AL.com.
Now, that also means Alabama will have a total of $300,000 collected due to field-storming incidents, David Ubben of The Athletic explained. In their previous two losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee, both teams also had to pay $100,000 to the Crimson Tide after fans entered the field and celebrated their teams’ respective upsets.
