Brewers Trade Star outfielder to Yankees in “Admittedly” Wild Proposal

Christian Yelich, one of the most exciting players in baseball before a back injury cut his 2024 season short, has had a rollercoaster career since joining the Milwaukee Brewers. Yelich won the NL MVP in 2018 after posting a .326/.402/.598 batting line with 36 home runs, 110 RBIs, and 22 stolen bases, helping the Brewers reach Game Seven of the NLCS. His 2019 season was even better, with a .329/.429/.671 line, 44 home runs, 97 RBIs, and 30 stolen bases. However, a devastating knee injury ended his season prematurely.

The 2020 season, shortened by COVID-19, saw Yelich struggle, posting just a .205/.356/.430 line, and his struggles continued from 2020 to 2022 with a .243/.358/.388 slash. Despite the downturn, his on-base percentage remained solid, giving fans hope for a rebound.

In 2023, Yelich showed signs of his former self with a .278/.370/.447 line, 19 home runs, 76 RBIs, and 28 stolen bases. The following year, he hit .315/.406/.504 with 11 home runs, 42 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases in just 73 games, earning an All-Star nod for the first time since 2019 before a back injury ended his season.

Despite the injury, Yelich’s value remains high, and he’s even been included in trade proposals, with Peter Appel of Just Baseball suggesting a potential move to the Yankees. While Yelich signed a seven-year, $188.5 million extension with the Brewers in 2020, signaling their long-term commitment to him, Appel speculated that Yelich might become expendable as Milwaukee’s younger, more defensively capable outfielders emerge. However, the Brewers are unlikely to trade him, as they are focused on retaining key players like Yelich, making any trade proposal for him virtually impossible.
