Broncos Part Ways With Veteran Defense Star

Kwon Alexander was one of two veteran inside linebackers signed to the Broncos’ practice squad in Week 4 following Alex Singleton’s season-ending ACL injury. However, after being overlooked for a spot on the active 53-man roster this week, Alexander is moving on.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Detroit Lions are set to claim Alexander off the Broncos’ practice squad.

This move comes shortly after the Broncos promoted Zach Cunningham from the practice squad to the active roster. Both Alexander and Cunningham had reached their practice-squad elevation limits, with Alexander seeing action in games against the Saints, Panthers, and Ravens, while Cunningham played in the following three matchups.

In their appearances, Alexander logged 65 defensive snaps and started against the Saints and Ravens, while Cunningham recorded 13 defensive snaps and eight on special teams.

Recently, Justin Strnad has emerged as the main inside linebacker alongside Cody Barton, who wears the “green dot” helmet to relay defensive calls. Strnad stepped into a starting role for the first three games after Singleton’s injury and has remained a key player since, playing a season-high 63 snaps in last Sunday’s victory over the Raiders.
