Broncos $5M Starter Faces Uncertain Status Ahead of Browns Game
The Denver Broncos are facing a potential setback ahead of their Week 13 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, as Riley Moss is set to miss the game due to injury.
Moss, a key contributor to Denver’s improved pass defense, missed all of practice this week. Despite ranking eighth in passing yards allowed per game, the Broncos will be without him for this crucial home game.
The Broncos traded up to select Riley Moss in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. After battling injuries as a rookie, Moss earned the CB2 role during training camp this offseason. He is currently in the second year of a four-year, $5.4 million contract.
The Broncos may be playing it safe with Riley Moss ahead of their tough matchup against Jerry Jeudy and the Browns. With a bye week coming in Week 14, Moss’ status could improve significantly by Week 15.
Riley Moss sustained a knee injury during the Broncos’ Week 12 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton downplayed the severity of Riley Moss’ knee injury, saying it wasn’t a major concern.
“Anytime you lose one of your top corners, it changes things,” Payton said on November 24. “We still had our plan for [Brock] Bowers that involved Pat and some doubles. But Levi [Wallace] stepped up, and fortunately, it wasn’t too serious with Riley. It’s an MCL… we’ll see how next week goes. There was some thought he could return, so we’ll see where it stands.”
Riley Moss is the NFL’s most-targeted defender, according to Stathead.
As the corner opposite Pat Surtain II, it’s no surprise that Riley Moss is the NFL’s most-targeted defender. With 84 targets, Moss has been targeted seven more times than the second-most, Byron Murphy of the Minnesota Vikings. Interestingly, Broncos nickelback Ja’Quan McMillian ranks as the sixth-most targeted defender.
