Lions Lose Multiple Key Players to Severe Injury

The Detroit Lions continue to adjust their roster due to defensive injuries.

After their Thanksgiving victory, which saw several key players injured, the Lions have made several roster changes. On defense, they added defensive linemen Myles Adams and Jonah Williams, along with linebacker Kwon Alexander to the active roster. Additionally, they signed former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams to the practice squad, with the possibility of promoting him to the active roster later in the season.

Detroit’s secondary was short a starter on Thursday, as cornerback Carlton Davis missed the game due to knee and thumb injuries. Davis returned to practice on Monday, but four other starters were absent, including Levi Onwuzurike, DJ Reader, Josh Paschal, and Taylor Decker.

Decker has missed two of the last four games, leading to Dan Skipper filling in for him. Instead of moving right tackle Penei Sewell to left tackle to protect quarterback Jared Goff’s blindside, Skipper has started in Decker’s place.

On Monday, Johnson explained why the Lions chose not to shift Sewell to the left side. He said, “A lot of it comes down to the fact that Penei has played a lot of football, and if there’s a chance he could play, we don’t need to move him around and complicate things. We know Penei can play both sides well, and Skipper is also ready to step in wherever needed, whether inside or outside. So, it gives us flexibility.”
