New York Mets to Sign Projected $600 Million Superstar

The Boston Red Sox, long accustomed to watching the New York Yankees snatch top free agents, now have an opportunity to turn the tables in a major way. Randy Miller of NJ.com shared on WFAN on November 30 that the Red Sox, alongside the New York Mets, are among the favorites to sign superstar Juan Soto away from the Yankees.

Miller noted, “I’m hearing the Yankees fear the Red Sox more than anyone,” adding that the Mets and Red Sox are both serious contenders for Soto, with the Yankees not likely to secure him. A move like this would be a huge blow to the Yankees, particularly given Soto’s significant impact in his lone season in New York. The 26-year-old slugger, acquired from the San Diego Padres for the 2024 season, was a key factor in helping the Yankees reach their first World Series in 15 years.  Miller also mentioned that Soto’s decision will likely come down to money, and given his limited time in New York, it’s unlikely he’ll offer the Yankees any discounts. He further speculated that the Yankees’ bid may top out around $550 million, while Soto may already have offers exceeding $600 million from other teams.

While the Yankees are typically a dominant player in free agency, they face tougher competition this offseason. Both the Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers have deeper pockets and have already made a strong push for Soto. Analyst Andy McCullough of The Athletic predicted that Mets owner Steve Cohen, known for his wealth, will secure Soto with a historic contract. The Dodgers have also shown interest in the slugger. If the Red Sox are willing to match or exceed these offers, they could land Soto, potentially seeing the Yankees’ key postseason contributor from their World Series run don a Red Sox uniform by 2025.
