Ducks Bolster Roster with Top-Notch QB, Dynamic WRs, and Disruptive Defenders

The Ducks are adding a familiar name to their quarterback position with Akili Smith Jr., the son of former Oregon QB Akili Smith. Standing 6-5 and weighing 225 pounds, Smith Jr. is a talented prospect with strong physical potential, though he still needs to add some bulk. He already shows excellent arm strength and the ability to adjust his throwing motion. In 2023, he led his high school team to an 11-1 record, passing for over 2,400 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Oregon also signed several four-star wide receivers in the 2024 class but is looking to add even more playmaking ability at the position, with several ESPN 300 commits on board. The top target is five-star Dakorien Moore, a speedy playmaker who can make big plays after the catch. As a junior, he helped lead Duncanville to a state championship, with over 60 catches and 1,200 yards. Another standout is Dallas Wilson, a 6-3 receiver from Florida with great hands and the ability to get open. Cooper Perry, a refined route runner, could make an immediate impact as well.

On defense, Nasir Wyatt is a disruptive edge rusher with quickness and the ability to bend around the edge, making him a serious threat to quarterbacks. He recorded over 20 sacks in his sophomore and junior seasons. Dorian Brew, the son of two former college track stars, brings both speed and physicality to the secondary. Trey McNutt, a versatile two-way player, is also expected to contribute in the secondary, adding more speed to the defensive backfield. He’s been clocked at over 21 mph during games.
