In a historic moment, Jansen became the first player to appear for both teams in the same game. On June 26, he faced an 0-1 count when a rain delay suspended the game with one out in the top of the second inning. He was then traded to the Red Sox on July 27 for three prospects.

Last season, Jansen, 29, batted .205 with nine home runs and 24 RBIs in 92 games with the Blue Jays and Red Sox. Over his career, he has a .220 batting average with 74 homers and 220 RBIs in 501 games played with both teams.
