After a strong start to the season, the Golden State Warriors seemed poised to be a contender in the Western Conference. However, recent weeks have raised more questions than answers. After an impressive 12-3 record, the Warriors have struggled, losing six of their last seven games. Despite this slump and a drop in the standings, the team still holds a great deal of promise and potential.
However, it may now be essential for the Warriors to make a move at the trade deadline to strengthen their roster. The issue is that their best opportunity to make a significant move may have already passed. Looking back to the offseason, it was clear that their prime chance came when they pursued Paul George and Lauri Markkanen.
For reasons that remain unclear, the Warriors were unable to secure either player. In the case of George, the LA Clippers may have been hesitant to trade him to a rival in the Western Conference. As for Markkanen, reports suggest that the Warriors weren’t fully committed to the trade talks. Regardless of the reasons, it’s evident that the Warriors may have missed their best opportunity to significantly upgrade their roster and extend their championship window.
While the Warriors will likely remain active as the trade deadline approaches, it’s hard to envision them pulling off a major, season-changing move at this point. If that proves to be the case, it would be particularly unfortunate given how close they were to making a big splash during the offseason.
