Kyle Shanahan Silences Trade Chatter with Bold, Unyielding Statement

The San Francisco 49ers (6-7) snapped a month-long losing streak with a commanding 38-13 victory over the Chicago Bears (4-9) on Sunday. It marked their first win since Week 10. The 49ers dominated from start to finish, with Brock Purdy throwing for 325 yards and two touchdowns, while George Kittle delivered a season-best performance, racking up 151 yards on six receptions.

After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed rumors linking him to a potential offseason trade, specifically with the Bears, who recently fired head coach Matt Eberflus. The speculation was sparked by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, who floated the idea during an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show.” Florio suggested that both Shanahan and the 49ers might benefit from a “fresh start” and hinted at the possibility of pairing Shanahan with projected No. 1 draft pick Caleb Williams, saying, “If you can get Shanahan and join him at the hip with Caleb Williams, are you kidding me?”

The 44-year-old Shanahan sent a clear message on the idea after Sunday’s dominant win. “I don’t know why they come out, but I don’t want to be any place in the world more than here,” Shanahan told reporters. “My family feels just as strong, if not a lot stronger. So I hope (he’s) gonna have to kick me out of here.”

Speculation about a potential trade involving 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has also drawn a response from general manager John Lynch. During a Friday appearance on KNBR’s “Murph & Markus” show, Lynch dismissed the rumors as “comical.” He highlighted the team’s recent success under Shanahan, noting, “We have won four of the last five division championships. We’ve been in two Super Bowls.”

Lynch acknowledged the organization’s championship expectations but praised Shanahan’s leadership, calling him an “excellent head coach.” He added, “The fact people are talking about stuff like that, I do find it comical.”

Shanahan, now in his eighth season with San Francisco, has compiled a 70-58 regular-season record along with an 8-4 postseason mark. He remains under contract with the 49ers through the end of next season, thanks to a six-year extension he signed in 2020.
