Oregon Ducks Top Starter Hits Transfer Portal After 1 Season

The Oregon Ducks have seen their second player of the season declare his intention to enter the transfer portal. Freshman linebacker Jaxson Jones revealed his decision to enter the portal in an interview with On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Sunday, Dec. 8.

Jones played only one snap during the regular season, which came in Oregon’s matchup against the Maryland Terrapins. A three-star recruit from the 2024 high school class, he is capable of playing both as an edge rusher and a linebacker.

When Jaxson Jones enters the transfer portal, he will retain four years of eligibility, having not played the four games required to forgo a redshirt season.

Jones’ decision comes just a week after fellow freshman Jac’Qawn McRoy, a tackle, announced his intention to enter the transfer portal as well. McRoy, like Jones, will also have four years of eligibility remaining.

Jones, originally from Yuma, AZ, received offers from several former Pac-12 schools during his high school recruitment, including Cal, USC, Utah, Washington, and Oregon State. He initially committed to Washington but decommitted on January 23, 2023.

While losing players to the transfer portal is never ideal, the Oregon Ducks have an abundance of talent on their roster.

The Rose Bowl Game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. PT on January 1, 2025, and will be broadcast on ABC and ESPN+.
