Brewers’ Trade Target “Off the Market” for Now
The Milwaukee Brewers are focused on addressing a key off-season need: adding an impact bat capable of playing the infield. With shortstop Willy Adames departing and limited free-agent options at that position, acquiring a third baseman appears to be the most straightforward solution.
Alec Bohm of the Philadelphia Phillies had been a prominent name in trade rumors as a potential fit, but it was revealed during the MLB Winter Meetings that he is not being actively offered for trade.
Phillies manager Rob Thompson addressed the rumors on MLB Network, stating, “We’re not shopping Alec Bohm.” He highlighted Bohm’s significant growth over the past few years, both physically and mentally, as well as his defensive improvement and strong contact ability, calling him a key asset for the team. Despite this, the Phillies’ asking price for Bohm is reportedly higher than expected. While they are not actively shopping him, the Phillies are reportedly listening to offers.
Earlier, a potential trade that would send closer Devin Williams to Philadelphia and Bohm to Milwaukee seemed plausible given each team’s needs. However, after the Phillies signed former All-Star closer Jordan Romano, their bullpen situation changed.
While they are still seeking bullpen help, it now appears that acquiring Bohm would require a package including Williams—who has only one year of team control remaining—an MLB player or MLB-ready prospect, and an additional prospect for the deal to be considered by the Phillies.
