JJ Hester, a redshirt senior wide receiver for Oklahoma, is entering the transfer portal, seeking to finish his college career elsewhere. This season, he recorded 14 catches for 315 yards and 1 touchdown for the 6-6 Sooners, ranking second in receiving yards on the team behind tight end Bauer Sharp, who is also in the portal.
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 200 pounds, Hester played a key role in the Sooners’ passing game this fall after injuries impacted the wide receiver corps. Before joining Oklahoma, Hester spent two seasons at Missouri.
After using his redshirt year during his freshman season at Missouri in 2020, Hester had limited action in 2022, appearing in just 3 games before being sidelined with an injury. He also missed much of the previous season due to injuries.
It’s unclear whether Hester will apply for a medical redshirt or seek to use his 2022 redshirt season, as the 2020 season does not count against eligibility due to the COVID-19 exemption. Regardless, Hester has only one year of eligibility left. He is now among several wide receivers, including Jaquaize Pettaway and Nic Anderson, reportedly entering the transfer portal.
