NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. is officially leaving the Miami Dolphins after just seven months, the team confirmed on Friday.
This marks another chapter in OBJ’s eventful career, which began with the New York Giants in 2014 and has included stints with the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, and Los Angeles Rams.
In May 2024, Beckham signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins, but was released early after playing only nine games.
Sources report that his departure was a “mutual agreement,” with NFL reporter Tom Pelissero stating on X: “The #Dolphins and three-time Pro Bowl WR Odell Beckham Jr. have mutually agreed to part ways, per sources. Beckham is seeking more opportunities elsewhere, and the team is allowing his release. He will be on waivers until Monday.”
The Miami Dolphins released wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on Friday, bringing an end to his brief time with the team.
Beckham had missed the past two days of practice due to what the team described as personal reasons.
He joined the Dolphins in May on a one-year contract but began the season on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing knee surgery in the offseason. Since making his debut in Week 5 against New England, Beckham recorded just nine receptions for 55 yards across nine games.
Originally signed to serve as the third receiving option behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, Beckham never quite found his place in the Dolphins’ offense. With the rise of rookie receiver Malik Washington and an increased role for tight end Jonnu Smith, Beckham was unable to secure the third receiver spot.
After a standout first five seasons with the New York Giants, Beckham has played for four different teams, including stints with Cleveland, Baltimore, and the Los Angeles Rams. He won a Super Bowl with the Rams during the 2021-22 season.
Last season with Baltimore, Beckham totaled 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns, but was released by the Ravens in March.
