STUNNING MOVE: Shockwaves in Auburn as Top Starter Hits Transfer Portal

Auburn Tigers junior safety Caleb Wooden has decided to enter the transfer portal. This move appears logical for Wooden following a National Signing Day in which Auburn secured a significant number of defensive back recruits.

A former three-star recruit, Wooden exceeded expectations for much of his time at Auburn.

While he never fully emerged as a star over his three seasons with the Tigers, the Lawrenceville, GA native consistently provided solid performances, earning significant playing time on a strong defense.

During his time at Auburn, Wooden recorded two interceptions, two pass breakups, 41 total tackles, and a sack. Though these numbers aren’t standout, the 6-foot-1 safety was a reliable contributor to DJ Durkin’s defense and will be missed next season.

With Wooden entering the transfer portal and Auburn’s other starting safety, Jerrin Thompson, out of eligibility, Durkin and head coach Hugh Freeze will likely look to the portal for at least two experienced defensive backs. As it stands, incoming freshmen Anquon Fagens and Eric Winters are expected to compete for the majority of playing time in the secondary.
