The Miami Dolphins have released quarterback Skylar Thompson, who has served as the backup to Tua Tagovailoa in recent seasons, ahead of Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.
Thompson, a seventh-round draft pick from Kansas State in 2022, played in 11 games over three seasons with the Dolphins, starting four of them (three during the regular season). He recorded a 1–3 record, including a close 34–31 playoff defeat to the Buffalo Bills in 2022, where he passed for 220 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
Thompson has completed 58.7% of his passes in 10 regular season games, totaling 721 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.
He was eventually overtaken on the depth chart by veteran Tyler Huntley, who was signed in mid-September and started three games earlier this year in place of the injured Tua Tagovailoa.
This has been a busy week for the Dolphins’ roster, as the team also released Odell Beckham Jr. and replaced him on the wide receiver depth chart with Grant DuBose.
With a 6–7 record, Miami is currently ranked ninth in the AFC, two games behind the Denver Broncos for the conference’s final playoff spot.
