Just In: Oklahoma Loses Tight End to Another SEC Team

Tight end Bauer Sharp is leaving Oklahoma but staying within the SEC.

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, Sharp has committed to LSU for his final year of eligibility after spending just one season with the Sooners.

During his lone season in Norman, Sharp emerged as a key contributor, leading the team in receptions and receiving yards. He recorded 42 catches for 324 yards and scored two touchdowns, making him a reliable target for quarterbacks Jackson Arnold and Michael Hawkins Jr., especially as the wide receiver corps was hit hard by injuries.

Ironically, Sharp’s final game as a Sooner came against LSU at Tiger Stadium — the place he will now call home. In that game, he caught a 4-yard pass but also made a costly error on a trick play, throwing an interception.

Prior to his time at Oklahoma, Sharp spent two seasons at Southeastern Louisiana. He initially joined as a quarterback but transitioned to tight end before the 2022 season.

Sharp isn’t the only Sooner to enter the transfer portal. He is joined by six Oklahoma wide receivers, including Brenen Thompson, Andrel Anthony, Jaquaize Pettaway, Nic Anderson, Jalil Farooq, and J.J. Hester. None of them have announced their transfer destinations.

Despite Sharp’s departure, the Sooners still have depth at tight end. The roster includes Jake Roberts, Kade McIntyre, Davon Mitchell, Hampton Fay, and Kaden Helms, all of whom are expected to return next season except for Roberts, who has exhausted his eligibility. Oklahoma will face Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl on Friday, Dec. 27.
