Oregon football is receiving a significant commitment as it prepares for the College Football Playoff. Cornerback Theran Johnson, a transfer from Northwestern, is committing to the Ducks, according to On3. Johnson is regarded as one of the top defensive backs in the transfer portal.
This season, Johnson earned All-Big Ten honors and was ranked as the No. 3 cornerback in the portal by On3 recruiting services. He finished the 2024 season with 40 solo tackles, two interceptions, and 10 passes defended. Over his three years at Northwestern, he recorded over 100 career tackles and three interceptions.
Oregon is gearing up for its first College Football Playoff appearance, entering as the No. 1 seed with a first-round bye following its Big Ten championship victory.
This commitment is a boost for Oregon fans, especially after the recent departure of outside linebacker Emar’rion Winston to the transfer portal on Saturday. Winston contributed four solo tackles to the Ducks’ defense this season.
