Rangers put NHL suitors on notice about LW Chris Kreider

Arthur Staple and Peter Baugh of The Athletic report that the Rangers are actively shopping Chris Kreider across the league. According to their sources, a report from Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Rangers GM Chris Drury has informed the other 31 NHL general managers that the team is open to trade offers. Chris Kreider will turn 34 years old on April 30, 2025, at the end of the current NHL season. The left winger has spent his entire 13-year career with the New York Rangers, maintaining a strong track record of health and consistency. However, his production has declined this season. In 27 games so far, Kreider has recorded just 10 goals and 11 points, along with a -4 rating.

Last season, Kreider posted the second-highest goal and point totals of his career, finishing with 39 goals and 75 points. Over the past four seasons, his 136 goals rank 9th in the entire NHL, according to The Athletic. Given his impressive performance last year, his noticeable drop in production this season stands out as a significant regression.

Rangers’ trade stance shows their desire to end playoff failures

Kreider’s ability to score and assist was a key factor in helping the Rangers win the President’s Trophy last season and remain competitive in the playoffs for three of the past four years. However, New York is determined to shake up their roster in an effort to improve their current 15-14-1 record.

After falling short of winning the Stanley Cup in 2023-24 despite being considered favorites, this season has been even more disappointing for the Blueshirts. The Rangers’ willingness to trade Kreider signals their intent to be aggressive in rebuilding the roster ahead of the March 8 trade deadline.
