Sean McVay: Rams Not Eyeing Veteran. — No Talks So Far

The Miami Dolphins 2024 season hasn’t gone as planned, and with playoff hopes fading, the team has released veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. After clearing waivers on Monday, Beckham is now free to sign with any team.

Multiple reports indicate Beckham has a short list of teams he’d like to join, and some have suggested the Los Angeles Rams could be a potential landing spot. However, Rams head coach Sean McVay quickly dismissed the idea, stating that the team hasn’t even discussed the possibility of bringing Beckham back.

“We haven’t talked about it yet,” McVay told reporters. “You know the respect I have for him, but it hasn’t been part of our discussions.”

Beckham, who signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Dolphins in May, struggled to make an impact, catching just nine passes for 55 yards and zero touchdowns in nine games. He began the season on the PUP list due to a knee injury and didn’t make his debut until Week 5.

Though Beckham’s time with the Dolphins was disappointing, it’s worth remembering that he’s only three years removed from a successful stint with the Rams. In 2021, Beckham caught 27 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns in just eight games, helping the team win Super Bowl LVI. However, his time in L.A. ended tragically when he tore his ACL during the Super Bowl, marking his final appearance with the team.

After missing the 2022 season to recover from surgery, Beckham returned to the field with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. While he hasn’t recaptured the explosiveness he displayed with the New York Giants, his past success and playoff experience make him a potential asset for another team.

Despite that, a return to the Rams seems unlikely. Beckham is reportedly prioritizing playing time, and with the Rams already boasting a deep wide receiver corps—including Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, Demarcus Robinson, and Tutu Atwell—there doesn’t appear to be a clear role for him in Los Angeles at this time.
