DALLAS, Texas – Winston Wright Jr., East Carolina’s kick returner, has been named to the Football Writers Association of America All-America Second Team, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
A native of Savannah, Ga., Wright becomes the 28th All-America selection in ECU history and the sixth Pirate to earn FWAA All-America honors. Previous recipients include first-teamers Terry Long (OL/1983), Robert Jones (LB/1991), and Andrew Bayes (P/1999), as well as second-team selections Zay Jones (WR/2016) and Ja’Quan McMillian (CB/2021).
In 2024, Wright accumulated 1,255 all-purpose yards (averaging 114.1 per game) for the Pirates. He rushed for 91 yards, recorded 556 receiving yards (third on the team), returned 18 punts, and accumulated 590 kickoff return yards, ranking sixth in The American. Wright, who was also a midseason All-America selection by The Sporting News, caught 54 passes, scoring a team-high eight touchdowns.
He returned 22 kickoffs with a 26.8-yard average, including a 94-yard touchdown return at Charlotte, his third career return touchdown (and first at ECU).
Wright was also named a Second-Team All-America pick by Action Network and earned Honorable Mention All-America honors from College Football Network and Sports Illustrated as a special teams player.
