The Ravens’ defensive line is fully operational as they enter the final stretch of the season, with Michael Pierce being added to the 53-man roster.
Baltimore activated Pierce off the injured reserve/designated to return list after he participated fully in practice throughout the week following their bye.
The team had two available spots on the roster, so no additional moves were required.
Pierce will have the opportunity to regain his form against the New York Giants‘ run game, which has been a key strength of their offense, led by Tyrone Tracy Jr. The Giants are ranked 15th in the NFL for rushing, averaging 115.6 yards per game.
This also gives Pierce a game to shake off any rust before next Saturday’s critical matchup against the run-heavy Pittsburgh Steelers. Before suffering a calf injury in Week 8 against Cleveland, the veteran defensive tackle had recorded 15 tackles and one sack in seven games.
Defensive tackle Travis Jones, who has been dealing with an ankle injury since October, also practiced fully this week and was removed from the injury report after the bye. The return of both Pierce and Jones could significantly boost Baltimore’s improving defense.
“It’s huge,” said Head Coach John Harbaugh. “Michael Pierce and Travis Jones are great players. Those guys are game-changers inside. Having them ready and 100% is a huge possibility for us. They’re both massive players performing at a high level.”
In additional roster moves, the Ravens promoted cornerback Desmond King and linebacker William Kwenkeu. This marks Kwenkeu’s second elevation, and King will make his Ravens debut, potentially aiding the secondary if safety Ar’Darius Washington, who is questionable due to personal reasons, is unavailable.
