Jalen Redmond’s rise with the Minnesota Vikings has been nothing short of remarkable. The 25-year-old defensive lineman from Oklahoma entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers in 2023 but was waived in August of that year. Determined to prove his worth, Redmond showcased his talent in the XFL with the Arlington Renegades, earning another chance in the NFL with Minnesota.
At 6-foot-2 and 291 pounds, Redmond has made his presence felt on the Vikings’ defensive line. This season, he has played in 11 games, starting twice. His contributions include 15 tackles, two pass deflections, and one sack, solidifying his role as a rising star on the defensive front.
Unfortunately, Redmond’s status for the Vikings’ upcoming game is in jeopardy. Head coach Kevin O’Connell revealed via NFL insider Ben Goessling on X that Redmond has entered concussion protocol. For many fans, it was an unnoticed development during the game, but his absence could be a significant setback for the Vikings’ defense.
With just a short turnaround following Minnesota’s Monday Night Football matchup against the Chicago Bears, Redmond faces a tight window to clear concussion protocol before Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. The timing could be a challenge for the young defensive lineman.
The Vikings boast one of the NFL’s best statistical run defenses, largely due to opponents being forced into passing situations. Still, having Redmond available would be a big boost against Seattle’s ground game, which ranks 28th in the league with an average of 94.3 rushing yards per game. His presence in the trenches could be pivotal as Minnesota looks to maintain its defensive edge.
