Pirates Sign First Baseman from Phillies Roster!
Darick Hall is heading to a new organization for the first time in his professional career, joining the Pittsburgh Pirates after spending his entire career with the Philadelphia Phillies. The 29-year-old first baseman and designated hitter, who was drafted by the Phillies in the 14th round of the 2016 MLB Draft, signed a Minor League contract with the Pirates on Saturday, complete with an invite to Spring Training.
Hall has spent most of his career in the minors, but he made an impression during his brief stints in the big leagues. In 2022, he played 42 games, hitting .250 with 9 home runs and 16 RBI. He also crushed 28 home runs in 101 games at AAA Lehigh Valley that year. Hall had an opportunity to start for the Phillies in 2023 after Rhys Hoskins suffered a season-ending ACL tear. However, a thumb injury required surgery, and by the time he recovered, Bryce Harper had claimed the first-base spot.
Despite that setback, Hall turned in his best career numbers at AAA, batting .311 with 18 home runs and 57 RBI in 74 games. However, his production dipped in 2024, and he finished with a .236 average and a career-low .706 OPS in 114 games for the IronPigs, keeping him from a call-up to the majors.
Now with the Pirates, Hall will look to regain his consistency at the plate and provide much-needed depth at first base, a position that has struggled to produce in the organization for several years.
