The Rams’ roster is stacked at two positions, but don’t count on a fast fix.
The LA Rams‘ 2024 season has raised several questions about their strategy. While some decisions make sense, others, such as not re-signing Odell Beckham Jr., who was pivotal in their Super Bowl LVI win, are puzzling. Additionally, the offense has struggled to score consistently, failing to reach 20 points in six games, with nine games at or just above that mark. Despite this, the Rams continue to underperform in key areas, leading to doubts about their approach.
Roster decisions, particularly at tight end and running back, are a significant mystery. The Rams have kept multiple tight ends, including Tyler Higbee, despite limited game usage. Their 12-personnel package, featuring two tight ends, has resulted in wins whenever it accounts for over 15% of snaps, yet the Rams continue to rotate tight ends frequently without consistent production.
In the running back room, Kyren Williams has excelled, ranking third in the NFL with 1,243 yards and 13 touchdowns. However, he’s the only back seeing significant playtime, while rookie Blake Corum has had limited opportunities.
Despite Williams’ strong performance, the Rams are still exploring additional running back options, like James Robinson and v, but neither has been signed. This focus on maintaining a crowded roster at tight end and running back while not addressing other needs raises further questions.
As the Rams look toward 2025, fans are left wondering if the front office missed opportunities to improve for the postseason and whether executives have a better understanding of the team’s direction than the rest of us.
