Why ECU Football Made Change For General Manager

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina Football has announced the hiring of Noah Joseph as the program’s new general manager, as confirmed by head coach Blake Harrell on Sunday. Joseph brings 20 years of coaching experience to the role.

Joseph most recently spent two years at Purdue University (2023-24), where he served as general manager for the Boilermakers. In this position, he was responsible for player personnel and roster management, recruiting, player evaluation, the management of the recruiting budget, name, image, and likeness (NIL), and revenue sharing, among other duties.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“We are excited to welcome Noah and his family to East Carolina and Pirate Nation,” Harrell stated. “In the evolving landscape of college football, I believed it was crucial to hire someone with experience in a GM role, and Noah certainly fits that bill. With his coaching background, talent evaluation skills, and knowledge of the GM position, he will be instrumental in advancing our program.”

Joseph, originally from Ohio, joined Purdue after two seasons at Missouri as a defensive analyst. Before that, he served as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Rutgers for two years (2018-19).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

He also spent four seasons at Indiana, where he worked with the safeties and was the defensive recruiting coordinator. During his time there, the Hoosiers ranked fourth in the Big Ten for passing defense in 2017, and his secondary group recorded 13 takeaways in 2016. In his first year at Indiana, his safeties contributed to seven of the team’s 13 interceptions.

Joseph’s career includes two years at North Texas, where he was the safeties coach and recruiting coordinator. The 2013 season saw the Mean Green finish 9-4 and win the Heart of Dallas Bowl, tying for the second-most wins in program history. Joseph coached two All-Conference USA players that year, Marcus Trice and Lairamie Lee.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2011, Joseph was co-defensive coordinator at Montana State, where his secondary led the Big Sky Conference in pass defense and pass efficiency. He also coached the team’s defensive backs from 2007 to 2010, helping lead the Bobcats to top national rankings in defense and sacks.

Joseph began his coaching career at Eastern Illinois, where he produced one of the top pass efficiency defenses in 2005. He also served as a graduate assistant at Drake University, Eastern Kentucky University, and Iowa State University.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Joseph played college football at Drake, where he earned Academic All-Pioneer Football League honors and served as captain of the 1998 team. He holds Drake’s record for the longest interception return (100 yards) against Wayne (Neb.) State in 1997. Joseph holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Drake (1999) and a master’s in education from Iowa State (2003).

Joseph and his wife, Lyla, have two daughters, Lily and Chloe.
