The Dolphins will be missing starting inside linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. on Sunday due to a knee injury that developed this week. Head coach Mike McDaniel expressed cautious optimism about Jaylen Waddle’s status and was very optimistic about linebacker Jordyn Brooks playing in Cleveland (4:05 p.m., CBS). Duke Riley or Tyrel Dodson may fill in for Walker.
Brooks, who left the 49ers game with knee and quadriceps injuries before returning later, is expected to play, according to McDaniel. Waddle, who missed the 49ers game with a knee issue, was a limited participant in Thursday’s practice and is likely to be listed as questionable.
McDaniel remains optimistic about Waddle’s chances of playing, citing his drive to play if he’s able. Safety Jordan Poyer, who missed Thursday’s practice due to knee and finger injuries, was expected to practice Friday, which McDaniel said gave him optimism for Poyer’s availability on Sunday.
On the offensive line, left tackle Terron Armstead, who missed a game with a knee injury but returned against the 49ers, is expected to play on Sunday. McDaniel is optimistic about Armstead’s availability, praising his strong performance in the previous game. When asked about Armstead’s future, McDaniel expressed a desire for him to return next season, noting his importance to the team.
Armstead is under contract through 2025 but carries a significant cap hit, which might require restructuring if both sides decide to continue their partnership. McDaniel also addressed other matters, including Tyreek Hill, who is playing through a torn wrist ligament and had a strong week of practice, and the decision to release Shaq Barrett, which McDaniel said made sense as it didn’t put the team at a competitive disadvantage.
