Jayden Daniels Sets New NFL Record!
Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels threw a touchdown pass on the final play of Sunday night’s overtime win against the Falcons. While a late touchdown pass would be a career-defining moment for many players, for Daniels, it’s becoming routine.
In just 16 games of his rookie season, Daniels has thrown a touchdown pass in the final 30 seconds of five different games, setting an NFL record for any quarterback in a single season.
Sunday’s game marked the second consecutive week Daniels threw a touchdown pass in the last 30 seconds, having done the same in the previous week’s victory over the Eagles. Fans will also recall his dramatic Hail Mary touchdown on the final play of the Commanders’ win over the Bears.
However, not all of Daniels’ late-game touchdowns have resulted in wins. He threw a touchdown with 21 seconds left in the fourth quarter against the Cowboys, but the Commanders missed the game-tying extra point, and their onside kick was returned for a touchdown. Daniels also threw a touchdown pass with 28 seconds left in the Week 12 loss to the Eagles, but the Commanders couldn’t recover the onside kick, falling 26-18.
Despite two losses, Daniels’ achievements as a rookie are remarkable. In fact, they would be impressive even for a seasoned veteran. His late-game heroics this season have solidified his place in NFL history.
