Kentucky extends an offer to Top Prospect!
With the transfer portal deadline looming, no new players can enter, but those already in the portal are still able to commit to other schools. In the meantime, the Kentucky Wildcats are focusing on strengthening their offensive line.
Kentucky is actively working to rebuild the Big Blue Wall through the transfer portal. To date, the Wildcats have added right tackle Alex Wollschlaeger (Bowling Green), guard Josh Braun (Arkansas), center Evan Wibberley (Western Kentucky), and versatile lineman Wallace Unamba (New Mexico).
Despite these key additions, Kentucky still lacks a vital piece on the offensive line: a starting left tackle.
On Saturday evening, Shiyazh Pete revealed that he has received a scholarship offer from Kentucky. Standing 6-foot-8 and weighing 320 pounds, the offensive lineman from Missoula has proven to be a reliable player, starting 31 of 33 games at left tackle during his time at New Mexico State. Pete still has two years of eligibility remaining.
Pete earned First-Team All-Conference UCA honors after playing a key role in helping the Aggies secure a 10-win season in 2023. Although an injury kept him out for the first half of the 2024 season, he made a strong return for the final six games. During that stretch, he allowed only five pressures and committed no penalties. Pro Football Focus gave him a season grade of 70.9, with his only allowed sack coming against Texas A&M.
Pete fits the exact profile Kentucky needs at left tackle, but his talent has drawn significant interest from programs nationwide.
The 6-foot-8 standout has already visited Oklahoma State and holds offers from top programs like Michigan, USC, and Iowa State. One team to watch is Vanderbilt, as Pete has hinted at a potential visit to Nashville. There, he would reunite with several former New Mexico State teammates who transferred alongside quarterback Diego Pavia last offseason.
Vanderbilt appears to be leading the race for Pete’s commitment. After missing out on Florida State-bound Vanderbilt transfer Gunnar Hansen, Kentucky urgently needs to secure a left tackle. If the Wildcats don’t act soon, they risk missing out on their top options in the transfer portal.
