Padres Set to Team Up $25 Million Breakout Star with Fernando Tatis Jr.

The San Diego Padres are looking to fill the void left by Jurickson Profar in left field after his breakout 2024 season. Profar posted a stellar .280/.459/.839 line, hitting 24 home runs and driving in 85 RBIs. Replacing that kind of production won’t be easy, but there’s a straightforward solution: re-sign Profar.

According to R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports, the Padres are likely to bring him back. Jon Heyman of the New York Post estimates Profar could sign for $26 million over two years.

Anderson points out that while Profar’s performance last season showed real improvement, teams might be cautious about a 31-year-old breakout player. Still, he believes a return to San Diego is the most likely outcome. Some other teams that missed out on top targets like Teoscar Hernández might also take a chance on Profar, hoping he can replicate his success.

Given his production and a potential deal worth no more than $20 million per year, re-signing Profar seems like an easy choice for the Padres to pair him with Fernando Tatis Jr. for the next few seasons.
