Seahawks cornerback named to the 2025 Pro Bowl.
Devon Witherspoon’s second season with the Seahawks has been nothing short of impressive, even if his stats didn’t always capture his impact on the field. Coaches, teammates, and fans alike have all praised the cornerback’s stellar play. And their recognition hasn’t gone unnoticed—Witherspoon has earned a spot in the 2025 Pro Bowl Games in Orlando for the second consecutive year.
While Witherspoon was the lone Seahawk selected for the Pro Bowl, five others were named alternates: defensive lineman Leonard Williams, punter Michael Dickson, safety Julian Love, outside linebacker Boye Mafe, and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
A standout in his rookie year, Witherspoon finished fourth in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting and made the Pro Bowl after posting 79 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 16 passes defensed, and a 97-yard pick-six that earned him Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Though his second season has seen a dip in some statistical categories—90 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 7 passes defensed, and no interceptions—Witherspoon has consistently performed at an elite level, continuing to make his presence felt on the field.
Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald has been all praise for Devon Witherspoon, highlighting his leadership and energy, which have become crucial to the team’s success. After Witherspoon’s standout performance with three tackles for loss and a sack against the Bears, Macdonald emphasized, “He’s grown so much as a leader in just his second year, and he’s someone we’re going to depend on for a long time. We love him because of his competitiveness, his love for the game, and how infectious his energy is. How can you not play 1,000 percent when 21 is on the field?”
Witherspoon’s impact goes beyond the stats; his relentless effort on every play, whether it’s making a hit or sprinting downfield to block on defensive touchdowns, has earned him immense respect. “He plays with his hair on fire,” Macdonald said. “If you want to shock people, watch 21 play. He brings it every day, every rep, and that’s why he’s great.” Defensive coordinator Aden Durde added, “Those selfless acts build the defense and shape our identity.”
Witherspoon’s consistency and dedication have helped him become just the sixth player in Seahawks history to start his career with two straight Pro Bowl selections, joining the ranks of Fredd Young, Rufus Porter, Lofa Tatupu, Earl Thomas, and Russell Wilson.
As for other standout Seahawks, defensive lineman Leonard Williams, with 9.0 sacks and 15 tackles for loss, has also impressed. “He’s a dog, man,” said linebacker Ernest Jones IV. Punter Michael Dickson continues to dominate, ranking second in the NFC in net average and third in punts downed inside the 20. Rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is nearing Tyler Lockett’s single-season receptions record, while safety Julian Love has posted another 100-tackle season and outside linebacker Boye Mafe has 6.0 sacks and 12 quarterback hits.
These players, along with Witherspoon’s electric presence, are helping solidify the Seahawks’ defense and shaping the team’s identity.
