GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina kick returner Winston Wright Jr. has been named a Second-Team All-American by Phil Steele Magazine, as announced by the publication.
A native of Savannah, Ga., Wright becomes the 28th All-American in ECU’s history and the fifth Pirate to receive All-America honors from Phil Steele Magazine, joining Justin Hardy (2014/third team), Zay Jones (2016/second team), Nate Harvey (2018/third team), and Ja’Quan McMillian (2021/second team).
In 2024, Wright accumulated 1,255 all-purpose yards (114.1 per game) for the Pirates, including 91 rushing yards, 556 receiving yards (third on the team), 18 punt returns, and 590 kickoff return yards, ranking sixth in The American. A midseason All-America selection by The Sporting News, he caught 54 passes and led the team with eight touchdowns. He also returned 22 kickoffs with a 26.8 average, including a 94-yard touchdown at Charlotte, marking his third career return for a score (first at ECU).
The Hula Bowl invitee was also named a Second-Team All-America pick by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and Action Network, along with earning Honorable Mention All-America honors as a special teamer from College Football Network and Sports Illustrated.
