Browns Shake Up Coaching Staff, Fires OC and OL Coach!

The Cleveland Browns have fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and offensive line coach Andy Dickerson after a disappointing 2023 season. The Browns finished with a 3-14 record, their worst since 2017, marked by injuries and ineffective quarterback play. Head coach Kevin Stefanski announced the move, acknowledging the coaches’ professionalism but stating the team would move in a different direction.

Dorsey and Dickerson only spent one season in Cleveland. The offense struggled, ranking 28th in total yards and 32nd in scoring. Dorsey, previously the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator, was tasked with building an offense around Deshaun Watson. However, Watson posted the worst QBR in the NFL, and the Browns failed to score 20 points in any of his seven starts. Following Watson’s Achilles injury in October, Dorsey called plays for backup quarterbacks, but the offense remained inconsistent, with Jameis Winston benched after throwing multiple interceptions and rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Bailey Zappe also starting in the final weeks.

Dickerson, who replaced Bill Callahan as offensive line coach, faced challenges, as the offensive line ranked 28th in rushing yards and allowed the second-most sacks in the league.

Stefanski indicated a desire to return to the West Coast offense that was successful in his early years as head coach, a strategy favored by key players like Joel Bitonio and Jack Conklin.

The Browns will begin their search for new coordinators immediately, with tight ends coach Tommy Rees considered an internal candidate. The team also holds a top-three pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Stefanski emphasized Watson’s health as crucial to his future with the team but does not expect further major changes to the coaching staff.
