Gophers Go All In to Snag Jackson County Central’s Top Talent

The Gophers are making a strong push to keep top in-state recruit Roman Voss, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound athlete from Jackson County Central. After signing Minnesota’s top high school players in the last two years, the Gophers hope to continue that success with Voss, who has received offers from multiple programs, including Iowa, Wisconsin, and California. He plans to commit this summer.

He’s also a safety but has dealt with injuries during the playoffs in the past two years, raising concerns about his health for college football.

Despite these challenges, Voss’ leadership has been a standout trait. He inspired his team with a message of focus and perseverance during key injuries.

Coaches are still undecided about his college position—while his high school coach sees him as a potential NFL-caliber tight end, others think he could play linebacker or as a pass rusher.

Roman’s family is full of athletes, including his brother Rudy, a former quarterback who played a key role in South Dakota State’s 2022 FCS national championship. Schuller, who has coached Voss since middle school, calls him the best player he’s ever worked with, saying, “If you get one of these guys in your lifetime, you’re lucky.”
