Yankees to Ink All-Star Infielder to Massive Contract

As the New York Yankees search for their next second baseman, one name that’s emerged is Jorge Polanco.

The Yankees have moved on from long-time second baseman Gleyber Torres, who signed with a different AL team in free agency. Now, the Bronx Bombers are reportedly eyeing Polanco as a potential replacement, according to Mark W. Sanchez of the New York Post.

Polanco’s 2024 season with the Seattle Mariners was hindered by a nagging knee injury, resulting in career lows in batting average (.213) and OPS (.651) across 118 games. Following knee surgery in October, he’s expected to be healthy for the upcoming season and has already resumed fielding ground balls.

Despite his tough 2024 campaign, Polanco had a standout year in 2019 with the Minnesota Twins, earning an All-Star selection after hitting .295 with 22 home runs and 79 RBIs. His best season came in 2021 when he recorded a .269 batting average with 33 home runs and 98 RBIs.

Polanco isn’t the only infielder the Yankees are considering, and they aren’t the sole AL contender eyeing him as a potential replacement for a departing All-Star.
